Title:Soroprevalencia para hanseniase em areas endemicas do estado do Para Soroprevalence for leprosy in endemic areas of the state of Para-
Source:Belem; s.n; 2004. 126 p. ilus, tab, graf.
Thesis:Present for Universidade Federal do Para presented for the degree Mestre.

Title:Immunofluorescence studies across the leprosy spectrum ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; June 29, 1978. 8 p. ilus, tab.
Abstract:Forty biopsies from skin lesions of untreated (24) and treated (16) leprosy patients, representing the whole leprosy spectrum, were examined by means of immunofluorescence (IF) methods. Only few or no cells staining with FTC-labelled antihuman immunoglobulin antisera were found in the lesional skin of all patients examined. Sparse IgM-deposits along the basement membrane of the epidermis were observed in a few borderline lepromatous and lepromatous patients. Complement deposits along the basement membrane of the epidermis and in the vessel walls were found in tuberculoïd as well as in lepromatous patients. Complement and in a lesser number IgG-deposits were observed around sweat glands and sometimes around sweat gland ducts and other skin appendages. Autofluorescing macrophages were noted in patients at the lepromatous side of the leprosy spectrum; approximately half of these patients showed complement deposits in an around these cells.(AU).

Title:Circulating antibodies to connective tissue microfibrils and dermal immunoglobulin deposits in leprosy ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; May 1979. 8 p. ilus.
Abstract:Subepidermal fibrillar depositis containing IgM immunoglobulin occur in apparently normal skin from leprosy patients. The distribution of the deposits is similar to that of the microfibrillar epidermis anchoring system which consists of elastic fibers.(AU).

Title:Consequences of smallpox vaccination in leprosy patients ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; sep. 1973. 8 p. tab.
Abstract:This study illustrates the consequences of smallpox revaccination in 45 lepromatous, 28 tuberculoid, and 47 normal individuals. Results obtained with leprosy were associated with a relative anergy against the vaccinia virus, the anergy being minimal in the tuberculoid leprosy but marked in the cases with lepromatous leprosy.(AU).

Title:Use of the ELISA to screen for anti-thymocyte and anti-beta 2-microglobulin antibodies in leprosy and SLE ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; dec. 1980. 9 p. graf.
Abstract:A report is given of the use of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to measure antibody to preparations of human thymocyte membranes (HTMA) and to beta 2-microglobulin. The assay described is simple and rapid, and requires only small quantities of an easily stored membrane preparation. The advantages of this technique over conventional methods involving cytotoxicity are discussed. Raised levels of IgM antibody to beta 2-microglobulin were detected in sera from SLE patients. Raised levels of IgG and IgM antibody to HTMA were found in sera from most active lepromatous cases. Two of eight sera from SLE patients showed raised IgG anti-HMTA, but not raised IgM. An attempt was made to study the subclass of the IgG antibodies found, but when checked against purified human IgG myeloma proteins, the available anti-subclass sera were found to lack the necessary degree of specificity in this assay. (AU).

Title:IgM immunoglobulins reacting with the phenolic glycolipid-1 antigen from Mycobacterium leprae in sera of leprosy patients and their contacts ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; Apr.-Jun. 1990. 4 p. tab.
Abstract:For the first time in Brazil it was investigated the occurrence of IgM anti-PGL-1 in the sera of household contacts of leprosy patients using the ELISA methodology. The sera of the multibacillary patients showed significantly more immuno-reactivity than from the paucibacillary patients. It was observed a high subclinical infection incidence among household contacts (19.4%). The percentage of leprosy development was 5% (1/21) among the seropositive contact group. This finding suggests that serology could be useful as prognostic test, but for better definition is necessary to test a population from endemic area for long period time.(AU).
